Pete was an important part of the 1956 Big Blacks football team that was the highest scoring team in the state of West Virginia. He was the workhorse of the group – rushing 98 times for 918 yards with an average of 9.4 yards per carry. He also led the team in scoring with 103 points, scoring 14 touchdowns and 22 extra points. He also passed for five touchdowns, passed off four touchdowns for laterals, and passed for an extra point. He was a multi-year letterman in both football and basketball.
