    Jerome VanMeter was the second football coach in Point Pleasant football history and one of the greatest, if not the greatest, coach in West Virginia high school sports history. He was the coach of the Big Blacks from 1924 until 1928 and coached football, boys basketball, and track. He is most remembered for the 1925-26 basketball team which was runner-up in the state of West Virginia and was also nationally acclaimed. He moved on to Beckley after his time at Point Pleasant where he won 222 football games along with three state championships. He also won 674 basketball games and six state championships. Even after he left Point Pleasant – he was still a figure to the local boys here and many knew him even while he coached Beckley. He is a member of the National High School Sports Hall of Fame and the West Virginia High School Sports Hall of Fame.
