Jack Rogers was a coach, sportswriter, and devoted fan of the Point Pleasant Big Blacks for over 40 years. He was a native of Oak Hill (WV) and went to Morris Harvey College after graduation. He then moved to Point Pleasant where he became the youngest editor I the state of West Virginia at the time. Jack was a biology teacher at Point Pleasant High School and was notorious for his stories about not only about sports but about life. He was the high school baseball coach for 24 years and compiled a record of 182-121. He also served as an assistant for football and basketball in the early 1940’s and was the head coach for all three sports for one season. He published over 10,000 articles for the Point Pleasant Register while he was a sportswriter. He directed the Little League baseball program for 8 years and the 8/9 year old field is named for him. He was awarded the Gene Morehouse Award in 1985 for distinguished service in sports writing in the state of West Virginia. Jack was and still is everything that is Point Pleasant athletics and he was the definition of school pride.
