    Excelling in three sports, he was selected to the All-State baseball team as a pitcher and outfielder his senior year. Held the school scoring record in basketball while being selected to the All-Regional basketball team and Honorable Mention for All-State. He received a four-year scholarship to Western Kentucky College to play football and basketball. He played quarterback and made All-Conference his junior and senior years-led the conference in punting his senior year. Following graduation he signed as a punter with the Edmonton Eskimos in Canada. Between 1962 and 1967 he was active in coaching at Point Pleasant and Miami Springs High School in Miami, FL.
